Strengthened loose bound road to give rail level access at Mill of Keir
Description:
Strengthened loose bound road to give rail plant low level access at Mill of Keir. The timber fencing will again be removed for the duration of the works to allow this. You used to be able to stand on the public side of the gate and see uphill through Kippenross Tunnel to Dunblane Station but not now with the vegetation growth! The gate at the top of the road is to stop fly tippers - there is a gap of 2ft between the gate post and the railway fence on one side and a small verge before a 30ft drop down to the river on the other. If you have the time and there are no kids about, go and sit below the viaduct - if you have patience you'll see a heron or kingfisher coming to fish but less welcoming is the sight of mink families. Beware in this area as the Giant Hogweed is just that with some reaching 10 to 12ft and plentiful - don't touch it or brush against it with bare skin!
